தாழ்விலுயி ராகச்	சிந்தையாலுன்
தாரைவடி வேலைச் சேவல்தனை யேனற்

போதருணை வீதிக்	கந்தவேளே

"பாத மலர் மீதில் போத மலர் தூவிப் பாடும் அவர் தோழ" என்கிறார் அருணகிரிநாதர். போதம் என்றால் அறிவு, ஞானம். முருகப் பெருமானை உள்ளத்திலே ஞான மலர்களைக் கொண்டு வழிபடுபவர்க்கு அவர் தோழனாக விளங்குவார் என்கின்றார்

பேதக விரோதத் தோதக விநோதப் பேதையர் (pEthaka virOthath thOthaka vinOthap pEthaiyar) : These strange women with ever-changing, hostile and deceitful attitudes (attitudes of the women change, based on the money they receive; being hostile, when they don't receive what they ask for), மனம் வேறுபாடு, பகைமை, வஞ்சகம் என்ற இவைகளை, பொழுதுபோக்காகக் கொண்ட மங்கையர்கள், பேதகம் (bEthagam) : மனம் வேறுபாடு; தோதகம் (thOthagam) : deceit, வஞ்சகம்;
ஒருத்தர் உடன் உறவாகி, ஒருத்தரொடு பகையாகி
ஒருத்தர் தமை மிகநாடி — (வரிக்கலையின்)

குலாவைக் கண்டு மாலின் (kulAvaik kaNdu mAlin) : flirt with me, and I am enamoured of them. மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் உறவாடுதலைக் கண்டு மோகித்து,

பேதைமை உறாமல் மற்று ஏதம் அகலாமல் (pEthaimai uRA matRu Etham agalAmal) : Because of this, my mind gets steeped in foolishness and indiscretion; my mind gets blemished thus. அறியாமை உற்று, அதனால் குற்றம் குறைகள் என்னைவிட்டு நீங்காமல், பேதைமை = அறிவின்மை, முட்டாள்தனம்.

The thoughts that arise in the mind that is under the seize of desires are blemished and so are the actions done under its command. Yet we do not recognize it, or perhaps brush it under the carpet and lead an ostentatious, mundane life, and die. Saint Arunagirinathar would like to change that by contemplating on the Lord's Vel and lead a spiritual life.

பேத உடல் பேணித் தென்படாதே (pEtha udal pENith thenpadAthE) : I hide the various changes occurring in my body which I dotingly nourish. மாறுதலை அடையும் உடலை விரும்பிப் பாதுகாத்து வெளியே தென்படாமல்,

சாதக விகாரச் சாதல் அவை போக (sAthaka vigAra sAthal avai pOga) : To put an end to this distortion, such as birth, ageing (from child to youth to old man) and eventual death and பிறப்பும், (பாலன், குமரன், கிழவன் என்ற) மாற்றங்களும், இறப்பும் ஆகிய இவையாவும் தொலைய, சாதகம் (sAthakam) : birth, பிறப்பு; விகாரம் (vigaaram) : (பாலன், குமரன், கிழவன் என்னும்) வேறுபாடு,

தாழ்வில் உயிராகச் சிந்தையால் உன் (thAzhvil uyirAga sinthaiyAl un) : in order that my life is without any imperfection, my mind has to envision You, with குறைவில்லாத ஒன்றாக என் உயிர் விளங்க, மனத்தால் உனது

தாரை வடிவேலைச் சேவல் தனை (thAraivadi vElai sEval thanai) : Your glorious and sharp Spear, Your staff with Rooster on it, புகழ் பெற்ற வேலாயுதத்தை, சேவல் கொடியை, தாரை (thArai) : கூர்மை கொண்ட

ஏனல் சாரல் மறமானைச் சிந்தியேனோ (yEnal sAral maRa mAnai sinthiyEnO) : and VaLLi, the deer-like damsel of the hunters who lived in the valley of the millet field; will I ever be able to meditate on these? தினைப்புனச் சாரலில் இருந்த வேடர்களின் மான் போன்ற வள்ளியை தியானிக்கமாட்டேனோ?

போதக மயூரப் போது அக அகடு ஆ மன் போது (pOthaga mayUrap pOthu aga agadu A man pOthu) : Seated on a central flowery seat, mounted on an elephant or Your peacock, You come out in procession யானை, மயில் இவற்றின் மீது மலர் ஆசனம் இட்ட நடு இருப்பிடத்தில் எழுந்தருளி வருகின்ற போதகம் (pOthagam) : elephant; அகடு (agadu) : நடுவிடம்; மன்(man) : நிலை பெற்ற; போது (pOthu) : flower bud about to blossom; மலரும் பருவத்து அரும்பு;
Although Murugan is known to mount the peacock most of the times, on certain occasions when He goes out to bestow His grace on His devotees or to enter the battlefield, He has used the elephant, PiNimukam, as the vehicle. In many shrines, this appears as Murugan's vehicle.

அருணை வீதிக் கந்தவேளே (aruNai veethik kanthavELE) : in the streets of ThiruvaNNAmalai, Oh Lord Kandha! திருஅண்ணாமலை வீதியில் உள்ள கந்தப் பெருமாளே,

போதக கலாபக் கோதை முது வானில் (pOthaga kalAba kOthai muthu vAniR) : The good old celestials, in whose land lives peacock-like DEvayAnai, reared by the white elephant (AirAvadham), யானையாகிய ஐராவதம் வளர்த்த மயில் போன்ற தேவயானை வாழும் பழைய விண்ணுலகத்தார்

போன சிறை மீளச் சென்ற வேலா (pOna siRai meeLa senRa vElA ) : were all released from the prisons of SUran by Your going to war with him, Oh Lord with the Spear! சென்றிருந்த (சூரனின்) சிறையினின்றும் அவர்கள் மீண்டு வருவதற்காக (சூரனுடன்) போருக்குச் சென்ற வேலனே,

பாதக பதாதிச் சூரன் முதல் வீழ (pAthaga pathAthi sUran muthal veezha) : The biggest sinner, SUran, and other demons, with a large battalion of soldiers, were all destroyed in the battle; பெரிய பாபச் செயல்களைச் செய்தவனும், காலாட்படைகள் உடையவனுமான சூரன் முதலிய அரக்கர்கள் அனைவரும் விழுந்து மடிய,

பாருலகு வாழக் கண்ட கோவே (pArulagu vAzhak kaNda kOvE) : To save this earth and the celestial world, You showed Your mercy, Oh Lord! மண்ணுலகும் விண்ணுலகும் வாழும் பொருட்டு கருணை புரிந்த தலைவனே,

பாத மலர் மீதிற் போத மலர் தூவி (pAtha malar meethiR pOtha malar thUvi) : Thinking about Your hallowed lotus feet and worshipping them by flowers represented by True Knowledge உன் திருவடி மலர்களை நினைந்து, ஞான மலரால் பூஜை செய்து

பாடுமவர் தோழத் தம்பிரானே.(pAdumavar thOzhath thambirAnE.) : are Your singing devotees, and You are their bosom friend, Oh Great One! பாடுகின்ற அடியார்களின் தோழனான தனிப் பெரும் தலைவனே.
