Paraphrase

Lord Murugan is the younger brother of the valorous elephant-faced Ganapati who is like the Karpagam tree, the miraculous tree in the Devaloka that can yield whatever is desired.

கரிமுகக் கட களிற்று அதிக கற்பக (kari muga kada kaLitru adhiga kaRpaga) : He has an face and the aggressiveness of a rutting elephant; he is the great KaRpaga (wish-yielding) VinAyagar; யானை முகத்தையும் மதத்தையும்கொண்ட களிறு, சிறந்த கற்பக விநாயகர், கடகளிறு (kadakaLiRu) : மதங்கொண்ட யானை, elephant in musth:

மதக் கஜமுகத்து அவுணனைக் கடியானை (madha gajamugaththu avuNanai kadi yAnai) : He is the elephant that conquered the ferocious elephant-faced demon, GajamukAsuran; மதங்கொண்ட யானை முகத்து கஜமுகாசுரனை அடக்கிய யானை, கஜமுகத்து அவுணனை (gajamugaththu avuNanai) : கஜமுகாசுரனை; கடிதல் (kadithal) : ஓட்டுதல், நீக்குதல், அழித்தல், கண்டித்தல், கோபித்தல் ;

Gajamukhasuran tortured the Devas as a result of receiving numerous boons from the gods. Lord Ganapati interceded on behalf of the Devas. When all His weapons failed to kill the asura, the Lord broke His tusk and hurled it at him. The asura now took the form of a rat but the Lord vanquished and made him His vehicle.
