Yoga, Meditation and Consciousness

To experience the ultimate Truth, mere study of books does not help; we must focus on direct experience, which is transcendental in nature that is beyond the senses and the intellect. This experience is not an imaginary experience of a visionary dreamer. The third eye or the eye of wisdom and intuition(Jnana Chakshus) is opened in the experiencer. This can happen only when all desires, wrath, greed, pride, egoism and hatred are eradicated.

The higher state of consciousness is different from the waking (jagruti), sleeping (sushupti) and dreaming (swapna) states. Here, we know we "are" but we don't know "where" we are. This knowledge that I "am," but I don't know "where" I am or "what" I am, is a state of thoughtless awareness called Turya, where the constant rising and falling of thoughts in the mind comes to an end. The attention becomes still like a lake without any ripples on it and a deep inner peace begins to dawn upon our awareness. When there are no ripples on the water of a lake, its surface becomes almost invisible as it reflects the beauty of the landscape around it. In the same way, the still mind reflects the beauty of the creation and melts into the peace of the divine. In the state of thoughtless awareness we think neither of the past nor of the future and are entirely in the present moment. We are no longer bombarded by the meaningless mental chatter that assails our awareness. There is neither darkness nor void in this experience. It is all light. There is neither sound nor touch nor form here. All dualities vanish here. There is neither meditator nor the meditated, neither pleasure nor pain, and neither day nor night.

சந்திர வெளிக்கு வழி- the path to the moon-space/intuition

In yogic reference, a nadi (not an anatomical structure) can be thought of as a channel through which the energies of the physical body, the subtle body and the causal body are said to flow. The nadis are said to connect at special points of intensity called chakras and are associated with the subtle body of a man.

According to traditional texts, there are more than 72,000 nadis of which three are very important: ida, pingala, and sushumna. The sushumna runs from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, passing through each of the seven chakras in its course. It is the path to enlightenment by acting as a channel through which kundalini shakti rises up from its origin at the muladhara (where it lies in a dormant or sleeping state) chakra to its true home at the sahasrara (thousandfold) chakra at the crown of the head.

One can think of the Ida and Pingala nadis as referring to the two hemispheres of the brain.

Ida is associated with feminine attributes and the moon and corresponds to the left hand side of the body and the right hand side of the brain. Importantly, it is responsible for extra-sensory perception and intuitive mind.

Pingala is associated with masculine attributes and the sun, and corresponds to the right hand side of the body and the left hand side of the brain. It is associated with rationality.

The above concepts are beautifully explained in Moolamkilar
