சுற்ற கபடோடு பல சூது வினையான பல கற்ற களவோடு (sutra kabadOdu pala sUdhu vinaiyAna pala katra kaLavOdu ) : Surrounded by deceit, I learned many treacherous activities and mastered the skill of stealing,

பழி காரர் கொலைகாரர் சலி ( pazhi kArar kolaikArar sali) : I befriended people of ill repute and murderers until I got tired of them.

சுற்ற விழலான பவிஷோடு கடல் மூழ்கி வரு துயர் மேவி (sutravizha lAnabavi shOdukadal mUzhgivaru thuyarmEvi) : I roamed around, gloating about vain glamor and drowned in the sea of life and felt anguished;

துக்க சமுசார வலை மீன் அது என கூழில் விழு செத்தை என (dhukkasamu sAravalai meenadhena kUzhilvizhu seththaiyena) : I was like the fish caught in the net thrown over the melancholic ocean of life and like the rotten matter found in the soup;

மூளும் ஒரு தீயில் மெழுகான உடல் (mULumoru theeyilmezhu gAna udal) : My body felt like the wax thrown into the burning fire;

சுத்தம் அறியாத பறி காயம் அதில் மேவி வரு பொறியாலே (suddham aRiyAdha paRi kAyam adhil mEvi varu poRiyAlE) : in this unclean and heavy body where the five sensory organs play mischief, பறி காயம் = பாரமான உடல்;

சற்று மதியாத கலி காலன் வரு நேரம் அதில் (satru madhiyAdha kali kAlan varu nEram adhil ) : When the arrogant God of Death (Yama) comes with scant respect,

தத்து அறியாமல் ஓடி ஆடி வரு சூதர் ஐவர் (thaththu aRiyAmal odi Adi varu sUdhar aivar) : not realising the imminent danger (of death), the five gamblers (called the sensory organs) run around carefree, தத்து/ஆபத்து (thathu) : danger; சூதர் (sUthar) : gambler;

சத்த பரிசான மண ரூப ரசமான பொய்மை விளையாடி (saththa parisAna maNa rUpa rasamAna poymai viLaiyAdi) : indulging in the falsehood of sensory pleasures of sound, touch, smell, sight and taste; சத்தம்/சப்தம் (saththam/sabtham ) : sound; பரிசானம் /ஸ்பரிசம் ((s)parisAnam ) : touch; ரூபம் ( roopam) : form (sight);

தக்க மடவார் மனையை நாடி (thakkamada vArmanaiyai nAdi) : I seek to go to the houses of suitable women,

அவரோடு பல சித்து விளையாடு வினை சீசி இது நாற உடல் (yava rOdupala siththu viLaiyAdu vinai cheechi idhu nARa udal) : and play with them several games of physical pleasure till this body becomes stinky.

தத்தி முடிவாகி விடுவேனோ முடியாத பதம் அருள்வாயே (thaththimudi vAgividu vEnomudi yAdhapadham aruLvAyE) : Should my body will ultimately degenerate and die miserably? Kindly bless me before that with Your immortal hallowed feet!

தித்திமித..............என தாளம் திக்கு முகிலாட (dhiththimidha ...... ena thALam dhikku mugilAda) : The rhythmic beats of "dhiththimidha ..." sound in all the directions like the clouds (or thunder); தாளம் திக்கு முகில் ஆட = திசைகளில் மேகம் போல் திரண்டு தாளம் ஒலிக்கவும்,

அரி ஆட அயன் ஆட ( ariyAda ayanAda ) : VishNu and BrahmA were dancing around to this rhythmic sound; முகில் (mugil) : cloud;

சிவன் ஒத்து விளையாட பரை ஆட வரர் ஆட (sivanoththuviLai yAdaparai yAdavara rAda) : Lord SivA danced; as also Mother ParAsakthi and the learned sages;

பல திக்கு அசுரர் வாட சுரர் பாட மறை பாட (pala dhikkasurar vAda surar pAdamaRai pAda) : the demons in all the directions were exhausted; the celestials began to sing and the VEdAs were chanted;

எதிர் களம் மீதே எத்திசையும் நாடி யமனார் நிணமோடு ஆட (edhir kaLam meedhE ethdhisaiyu nAdi yamanAr niNamodu Ada) : in the battlefield of confrontation, the messengers of Yaman wandered in all the directions walking all over the flesh strewn all around; எதிர்த்து வந்த போர்க்களத்தில் எல்லாத் திசைகளையும் தேடிச் சென்று, கால தூதுவர்கள் போர்க் களத்தில் கிடந்த மாமிசக் கொழுப்பில் நடை செய்ய; நிணம் = கொழுப்பு , fat, flesh;

பெல மிக்க நரி ஆட கழுது ஆட கொடி ஆட (bela mikka nari Ada kazhudhu Ada kodi Ada) : the strong foxes danced with joy (having found plenty of food); the fiends and crows danced;

சமர் எற்றி வரு பூத கணம் ஆட ஒளி ஆட விடு வடிவேலா (samar etri varu bUtha gaNam Ada oLi Ada vidu vadivElA) : and the surging crowd of devils, shoved away from the battle, danced when You wielded the powerfully bright and sharp spear, Oh Lord! போரில் மோதி வருகின்ற பூத கணங்கள் ஆட, ஒளியை வீசும்படி செலுத்திய கூர்மையான வேலனே,

எத்தி ஒரு மானை தினை காவல் வல பூவை தனை (eththi oru mAnai thinai kAval vala pUvai thanai) : tricking (by assuming several disguises) the deer-like belle VaLLi, an expert guard of the millet field, looking like a pretty pUvai bird, எத்தி/ஏமாற்றி ( eththi/EmAtri) : deceiving;

சித்தம் அலை காமுக குகா (siththam alai kAmuga guhA) : You stirred her heart with passion, Oh GuhA!

நம சிவாயனொடு ரத்ன கிரி வாழ் முருகனே (nama sivAyanodu rathnagiri vAzhmuruganE) : Along with Lord SivA, You are seated in the town of Rathnagiri, Oh MurugA!

இளையவா அமரர் பெருமாளே.(yiLaiyavA amarar perumALE.) : You are forever young and You are the Lord of the celestials, Oh Great One!
