பெருங் காரியம்போல் வரும் கேடு உடம்பால் ப்ரியங்கூர வந்து (perum kAriyam pOl varum kEdudampAl priyam kUra vanthu) : Taking keen interest in this body, the cause for all miseries and thinking it is going to accomplish a big job, பெரிய காரியத்தைச் சாதிக்க வந்ததுபோல வந்துள்ள எல்லாத் துன்பங்களுக்கும் காரணமாகிய இந்த உடம்பின் மீது ஆசைப்படும்படி வந்து,

கருவூறிப் பிறந்தார் கிடந்தார் இருந்தார் தவழ்ந்தார் (karuvURip piRanthAr kidanthAr irunthAr thavazhnthAr) : a life entered the womb, and a child was born; he was lying down; he was sitting there; he was crawling; கருவில் ஊறிப் பிறந்தார் என்றும், படுத்திருந்தார் என்றும், இருந்தார் என்றும், தவழ்ந்தார் என்றும்,

நடந்தார் தளர்ந்து பிணமானார் (nadanthAr thaLarnthu piNamAnAr) : he was walking; he became tired and eventualy died, becoming a corpse. நடந்தார் என்றும், தளர்ந்து பிணமானார் என்றும் கூற இடமானதும்,

அரும் கான் மருங்கே எடுங்கோள் சுடுங்கோள் (arum kAn marungE yedungOL sudungOL) : (People began to say) "Take away this corpse to the cremation ground and burn it"; அரிய சுடுகாட்டின் அருகே எடுத்துக்கொண்டு செல்லுங்கள் என்றும், அங்கே உடலைச் சுடுங்கள் என்றும் (சிலர் கூறத் தொடங்க),

அலங்கார நன்றிது என மூழ்கி அகன்று (alangAra nanRithu ena mUzhgi akanRu) : Some even appreciated the adornment made to the dead body! Everyone took a dip in the water and left the cremation ground, பிணத்திற்கு அலங்காரம் நன்றாய் அமைந்தது என்றும் சிலர் கூறி, பிணம் எரிந்ததும் நீரில் மூழ்கி,

ஆசையும் போய் விழும் பாழ் உடம்பால் (Asaiyum pOy vizhum pAzh udambAl) : forgetting the love and attachment to that body! For the sake of that destructible body, இருந்த ஆசையையும் பாசத்தையும் மறந்து செல்ல, விழுந்து பாழாகும் இந்த உடம்பைக் காரணமாக வைத்து

அலந்தேனை அஞ்சலென வேணும் (alanthEnai yanjalenavENum) : I have been roaming about aimlessly. Kindly bless me reassuring "Fear Not!" மனம் கலங்கி எங்கும் அலைந்து திரிந்த என்னை அஞ்சாதே என்று கூறி நீ வரவேண்டும்.

இருங் கானகம் போய் இளங்காளை பின் போக (irum kAnagam pOy iLam kALai pin pOga ) : He went to the dense forest along with His younger brother, Lakshmanan; பெரிய காட்டிற்குச் சென்று, இளைய வீரனாம் தம்பி லக்ஷ்மணன் பின் தொடர,

எங்கே மடந்தை என வேகி எழுந்தே (engE madanthai yenavEki ezhunthE) : they searched for the damsel (Seetha who was missing) everywhere in the forest; (காணாது போன) மாது சீதை எங்கே என்று தேடிச் சென்று புறப்பட்டு,

குரங்கால் இலங்காபுரந் தீ இடும் (kurangAl ilangA puranthee idum) : He set fire to LankApuri through the help of the monkey, HanumAn; அநுமார் என்னும் குரங்கின் மூலம் இலங்காபுரியில் நெருப்பை வைத்த

காவலன் தன் மருகோனே (kAvalanRan marukOnE) : He is the great King Rama; and You are His nephew. அரசனான ராமபிரானின் மருகனே,

பொரும் கார்முகம் பாணி கொண்டே (porum kArmugam pANi koNdE) : They bear the battling bows in their arms; போர் செய்யும் வில்லைக் கையில் கொண்டவர்களாய்; கார்முகம் = வில், bow;

இறைஞ்சார் புறஞ்சாய அம்பு தொடும் வேடர் (iRainjAr puRanjchAya ambu thodum vEdar) : they are hunters, capable of wielding arrows and conquering those who are disrespectful to them; தம்மை மதிக்காதவர்களின் வீரம் அழியும்படி அம்பைச் செலுத்தவல்ல வேடர்களுடைய, இறைஞ்சுதல் = வணங்குதல்; இறைஞ்சார் = மதிக்காதவர்கள்;

புனங்காவல் அங்கோதை பங்கா அபங்கா (punam kAval angkOthaipangA apangA) : those hunters' millet-field was guarded by the beautiful damsel, VaLLi, and You are her consort. You are absolutely blemishless! தினைப்புனத்தைக் காவல் செய்த அழகிய பெண் வள்ளியின் மணாளனே, குறைவொன்றும் இல்லாதவனே,

புகழ்ந்தோதும் அண்டர் பெருமாளே. (pugazhnthu Othum aNdar perumALE.) : You are the Lord of all the celestials who praise Your glory, Oh Great One! உன்னைப் புகழ்ந்து துதிக்கும் தேவர்களுடைய பெருமாளே.
