Paraphrase

மாத்திரை ஆகிலும் நா தவறாள் (mAththirai yAkilu nA ththavaRAL) : My wife has never breached any promise even by a small measure; நா தவறாள் (nA ththavaRAL) : வாக்கு தவறாதவள்;

உடன் வாழ்க்கையை நீடு என மதியாமல் (udan vAzhkkaiyai needena mathiyAmal) : yet I never respected the conjugal life that I lead with her.

மா(ம)க்களை யாரையும் ஏற்றிடு சீலிகள் மாப் பரிவே எய்தி (mA(ma)kkaLai yAraiyum EtRidu seelikaL mAp parivE eythi) : instead, I lusted after whores who liaised with any man,

அநுபோக பாத்திரம் ஈதென (anubOga pAththiram eethena) : and everybody accused me of being a philanderer; அநுபோக பாத்திரம் (anubOga pAththiram) : vessel for enjoyment;

மூட்டிடும் ஆசைகள் பால் படு (mUttidu mAsaikaL pARpadu) : Driven by the fire of desire

ஆடகம் அது தேட ( Adakam athuthEda) : I searched for gold (to give to the whores); ஆடகம் (Adagam) : gold;

பார்க்கள மீதினில் மூர்க்கரையே கவி (pArkkaLa meethinil mUrkkaraiyE kavi) : I wrote poems eulogising the foolish people on the earth as

பாற்கடலான் என உழல்வேனோ (pARkadalAn ena uzhalvEnO) : Lord Vishnu reclining on the milky ocean. Should I wander in life like this?

சாத்திரம் ஆறையு நீத்த மனோலய சாத்தியர் (sAththira mARaiyu neeththa manOlaya sAththiyar) : Those great men capable of subliming their mind after transcending the stage beyond the six Sastras (VEdic treatises), ஆறு சாஸ்திரங்களையும் கடந்து, மனம் லயித்து ஒடுக்கவல்ல சாத்தியம் படைத்தவர்கள்

மேவிய பதவேளே (mEviya pathavELE) : extol Your hallowed feet, Oh Great King! போற்றுகின்ற திருவடிகளை உடைய குமரவேளே!

தாத்தரி தாகிட சேக்கெனு மாநட தாள் பரனார் தரு குமரேசா (thAththari thAkida cEkkenu mAnadathAt para nArtharu kumarEsA) : You are the son of Shiva whose feet danced to the beat "thAththari thAkida sEk";

வேத்திர சாலமது ஏற்றிடு வேடுவர் (vEththira sAlamathu Etridu vEduvar) : Those hunters carry bunches of arrows; வேத்திரம் (vEththiram) : arrow;

மீக்கு அமுதா மயில் மணவாளா (meekku amuthA mayil maNavALA) : You are the consort of their nectar-like daughter, VaLLi, looking like a peacock. மிக்க அமுதாம் மயில்(meekku (mikka) amuthA mayil) : மிக்க அமுதம் போன்ற மயிலின் இயல் வள்ளியின்;
