Saint Arunagirinathar expresses regret that he should lead

பாலோ தேனோ பாகோ (pAlO thEnO pAkO) : "Are you milk, honey or a piece of jaggery?

வானோர் பாராவாரத்து அமுதேயோ (vAnOr pArAvAraththu amuthEyO) : or are you the nectar drawn out by the celestials from the milky ocean? பாராவாரம் (paaraavaaram) : sea, ocean;

பாரோர் சீரோ வேள் ஏர் வாழ்வோ (pArOr seerO vELEr vAzhvO) : Are you the treasure owned by the people of the world? Or are you blessed with a life like that of the God of Love (Manmathan)? இவ்வுலகில் உள்ளோரின் சிறப்புப் பொருளோ? மன்மதனுக்கு நிகரான வாழ்வோ?

பானோ வான்முத்தென (pAnO vAn muththu ena) : Are you the sun or the most precious pearl?" - with such greetings, சூரியனோ? சிறந்த முத்தோ (என்றெல்லாம் என்னைக் கொஞ்சி) (வான் = சிறந்த; ('வான்கழல்' பதத்துடன் ஒப்பிடுக)

நீளத் தாலோ தாலேலோ பாடாதே (neeLath thAlO thAlE lOpA dAthE) : lullabies were no longer sung to me; தால் - நாக்கு;

தாய்மார் நேசத்து உனு சாரந் தாராதே (thAymAr nEsath thunusAram thArAthE) : no mother thought of me with love and breast-fed me; நேசத்து = அன்புடன், உன்னு - விரைந்து எழுதல். சாரம் - சாறு

பேர் ஈயாதே பேசாதே (pEr eeyAthE pEsAthE:) : I was not given any worthy name nor was I ever spoken to with love;

ஏசத் தகுமோ தான் (yEsath thagumO thAn) : I was only ridiculed. Is it fair?

ஆலோல் கேளா மேலோர் நாள் (AlOl kELA mElOr nAL) : The other day, upon hearing the shouts of VaLLi driving away the birds (while guarding the millet), ஆல்+ஓலம் (Al Olam) : expression used to drive away birds;

மால் ஆனாது ஏனற் புனமே போய் (mAl AnAthu EnaR punamE pOy) : You became so uncontrollably passionate that You proceeded right up to her millet field,

ஆயாள் தாள்மேல் வீழா வாழா (AyAL thAL mEl veezhA vAzhA) : and fell at the feet of Mother VaLLi declaring that Your life then became worth living;

ஆளா வேளைப் புகுவோனே ( ALA vELaip puguvOnE) : thus You entered her life at an opportune moment as an attendant and servant! வள்ளிக்கு வேளைக்காரனாக, சமயத்தில் புகுந்து விளையாடியவனே; அடியவர்களை உற்ற வேளையில் வந்து காக்கும் சிறப்பால் முருகனை வேளைக்காரன் என்று அழைக்கிறோம்.

சேலோடே சேர் ஆரால் சாலார் (sElO dEsE rArAl sAlAr ) : Along with sEl fish, there are plenty of Aaral fish in this prosperous place, ThiruvArUr; சேல், ஆரால் (sEl, Araal) : kinds of fish; சாலார் (sAlAr) : மிகுந்து நிறைந்துள்ள;

சீர் ஆரூரிற் பெருவாழ்வே (seer ArUriR peruvAzhvE) : You are the treasure of this town!

சேயே வேளே பூவே கோவே (sEyE vELE pUvE kOvE) : You are Lord Siva's Son! You are Lord KandhA! You are fresh like the flower! Oh King! செம்மை நிறத்தவனே/ இறைவன் தந்த மகனே!/பெருமைக்குரியவனே!, வேளே! பொலிவுள்ளவனே! தலைவனே! வேள் = அரசன், கொடையாளி;

தேவே தேவப்பெருமாளே. (thEvE thEvap perumALE.) : Oh Lord of all the celestials! Oh Great One!
