ஆசார ஈன குதர்க்க துட்டர்கள் (AchAra veenak kutharkka dhuttargaL) : Those despicable people who don't perform prescribed sacred rites and engage in sophistic/fallacious arguments; குதர்க்கம் = விதண்டாவாதம்;

மாதா பிதாவைப் பழித்த துட்டர்கள் (mAthA pithAvaip pazhiththa dhuttargaL) : those base people who abuse their parents;

ஆமாவின் ஊனைச் செகுத்த துட்டர்கள் (AmAvin Unai cheguththa dhuttargaL ) : those cruel ones who kill the cows for eating the beef;

பர தாரம் ஆகாது எனாமற் பொசித்த துட்டர்கள் (para dhAram AgAdhu enAmaR posiththa duttargaL) : those depraved ones who cohabit with others' wives without any pricking of conscience;

நானா உபாயச் சரித்ர துட்டர்கள் (nAnA upAyach charithra dhuttargaL) : those wicked ones who habitually resort to multiple trickeries; பலவித தந்திரச் செயல்களை செய்த வரலாறு உடைய துட்டர்கள்

ஆவேச நீரைக் குடித்த துட்டர்கள் (AvEsa neeRaik kudiththa dhuttargaL) : those immoral people getting intoxicated by cosuming alcohol;

தமியோர் சொம் கூசாது சேரப் பறித்த துட்டர்கள் (thamiyOr som kUsAdhu sEra paRiththa dhuttargaL) : those thieves who usurp, without compunction, the entire wealth of helpless people; தமியோர் (thamiyOr) : those without refuge or support;

ஊரார்கள் ஆசைப் பிதற்று துட்டர்கள் (UrArgaL Asaip pidhatru dhuttargaL ) : those blabber-mouths who usurp articles that every one in the town covets;

கோலால வாள் விற் செருக்கு துட்டர்கள் (kOlAla vALviR serukku dhuttargaL ) : those arrogant rogues who pompously fight with swords and bows;

குரு சேவை கூடாத பாவத்து அவத்த துட்டர்கள் (guru sEvai kUdAdha pAvath thavaththa dhuttargaL) : those sinful people who never accrued merit to have the opportunity to serve their masters and accumulated only sins; and

ஈயாது தேடிப் புதைத்த துட்டர்கள் (eeyAdhu thEdip pudhaiththa dhuttargaL) : those stingy people who amass wealth and hide it away – all those wretched people

கோமாள நாயிற் கடைப் பிறப்பினில் உழல்வாரே (kOmALa nAyiR kadaip piRappinil uzhalvArE) : will take a miserable birth more depraved than that of a boisterous mad dog.

வீசா விசாலப் பொருப்பு எடுத்து எறி பேர் ஆரவாரச் சமுத்திரத்தினில் (veesA visAlap poruppeduth theRi pEr AravAra samudhdhiraththinil ) : Deep inside the noisy ocean that throws out mountain-high waves, பெரிய மலை போன்ற அலைகளை வீசி எடுத்து எறிகின்ற, மிக்க ஓசையை உடைய கடலின் மத்தியில்

மீளாமல் ஓடித் துரத்தி உட்குறும் ஒரு மாவை (meeLAmal Odith thuraththi yutkuRum oru mAvai) : (the 'vel') chased the frightened SUran, who was in the disguise of a mango tree and found no path to escape; திரும்பி வர முடியாதபடி ஓடித் துரத்தி, பயம் கொண்ட ஒரு தனி மாமரமாக ஒளிந்த சூரனை உட்குறு (utkuRum) : frightened; மா (mA) : Suran, in the form of mango tree,

போராடு சாமர்த்தியத் திருக்கையில் வேலாயுதா (pOrAdu sAmarththiya thiruk kaiyil vElAyudhA) : Oh Velayudha, You hold in Your hallowed hand the Spear, which displayed such tremendous battling skills! திறமை வாய்ந்ததும், உன் திருக்கரத்தில் உள்ளதுமான வேலை ஆயுதமாக கொண்டவனே

மெய்த் திருப்புகழ்ப் பெறு வயலூரா (mey thiruppugazh peRu vayalUrA) : You belong to VayalUr where You made me praise Your glory in songs and gladly accepted them.

Shiva extols Murugan as an eminent preceptor who imparts spiritual knowledge that destroys the delusion of the minds and cuts away the karma that causes repeated births.

மாயா விகாரத்து இயக்கு அறுத்தருள் (mAyA vikAraththu iyakku aRuththaruL ) : are affected by delusion; Destroy that delusion, மாயையால் சித்தத்தில் ஏற்படும் மருட்சியை நீக்கி,

ஞானோபதேசப் ப்ரசித்த சற்குரு வடிவான நாதா (nyAna upadhEsa prasidhdha saRguru vadivAna nAthA ) : Oh famous grand master, by preaching True Knowledge!" ஞான உபதேசம் செய்த புகழை உடைய சற்குரு வடிவமான நாதரே!"

எனா முன் துதித்திட (enA mun thudhiththida ) : with these words, Your Father, Lord SivA, once worshipped You.

புவி ஆதாரம் ஆய்கைக்கு முட்ட முற்றருள் (buvi AdhAra mAygaikku mutta mutraruL ) : You preached extensively to Him (Shiva) the meaning of Pranava that is the foundation/essence of the entire universe. உலகோருக்கு பிரபஞ்சத்திற்கு ஆதாரமாயிருக்கும் ஒரு மெய்ப்பொருளைப் பற்றின அறிவைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்ளுவதற்கான முறை ஆகும் பொருட்டு, ப்ரணவப் பொருள் முழுவதும் நன்றாக நீ உபதேசித்து அருளி

நாகேச நாமத் தகப்பன் மெச்சிய பெருமாளே. ( nAgEsa nAmath thagappan mechchiya perumALE.) : That SivA (to whom You preached) who has the name of NAgEsan, is full of adulation for You, Oh Great One!
