Paraphrase

கறுத்த குஞ்சியும் வெளிறி ( kaRuththa kunjiyum veLiRi) : My black hair has lost its dark color;

எழும் கொத்து உருத்த வெண் ப(ல்)லும் அடைய விழுந்து (ezhum koththu uruththa veNpalum adaiya vizhundhu ) : my prominent white teeth, neatly aligned, have all fallen;

உள் கருத்துடன் திகழ் மதியும் மருண்டு ( utkaruththudan thigazh madhiyu maruNdu) : my intellect, once filled with insightful thoughts, has become muddled up;

சுருள் நோயால் கலக்கமுண்டு அலம் அலம் உற (suruLnOyAR kalakka muNdala malamuRa) : my body and mind have been distressed by diseases, அலம் (alam): misery; perturbation;

வெண்டி பழுத்து எழும்பிய முதுகு முடங்க (veNdi pazhuth thezhumbiya mudhugu mudanga) : having fully ripened and dried up, my erstwhile erect back has crouched down; வெண்டி (vendi) : to become dried up or desiccated;

கழுத்தில் வந்து இளை இருமல் ஒதுங்க ( kazhuththil vandhiLai irumal odhunga) : phlegm and cough collect in my throat,

கொழு மேனி அறத் திரங்கி ஒர் தடி கை நடுங்கப் பிடித்து (kozhu mEni aRath thirangi Or thadikai nadungap pidiththu) : my plump body has shrunk and has to lean on the cane I hold in my trembling hand; அறத் திரங்கி (aRath thirangi) : highly shrivelled; மிகவும் வற்றிச் சுருங்கி;

இடும்பு உறு மனைவியும் நிந்தித்து (idum puRu manaiviyu nindhithu) : ridiculing me, my arrogant wife treats me with scorn; இடும்பு (idumbu) : haughty, impudent;

அடுத்த மைந்தரும் வசைகள் விளம்ப (aduththa maindharum vasaigaL viLamba): standing next to me, my sons speak abusively;

சடமாகி அழுக்கு அடைந்து இடர்ப் படும் உடல் (jadamAgi azhukka daindhu) : i have become inert; my body is dirty and suffers in misery;

பங்கப் பிறப்பு எனும் கடல் அழியல் ஒழிந்திட்டு (idar padumudal pangap piRappenung kadal azhiyal ozhindhittu) : this miserable body is getting ruined in the dismal sea of birth; to end this wreck,

அடுத்திரும் திருவடி தனை என்று உற்றிடுவேனோ (aduththirun thiruvadi thanai endru triduvEnO ) : when will I attain and remain at Your hallowed feet?

புறத் தலம் பொடி பட மிகவும் கட்டு அற (puRath thalam podi pada migavung kattaRa) : various objects in the outer space were shattered to pieces and became chaotic;

பெரும் கடல் வயிறு குழம்ப (perum kadal vayiRu kuzhamba) : the bowels of the vast sea were disturbed;

புகட்டு அரங்கிய விரக துரங்கத் திறல் வீரா (pugatta rangiya viraga thurangath thiRal veerA) : when You stormed and adroitly destroyed (the demons) when You mounted Your horse-like peacock! புகட்டு = (ஆங்காங்குள்ள அசுரர்கள் மீது) புகவிட்டு; அரங்கிய = (அவர்களை) தேய்த்துச் சிதைத்த; துரங்கம்/துரகம் (turangam/turagam) : horse; விரக (viraga): dexterous;

பொருப்பு உரம் படர் கிழி பட வென்று (poruppu uram padar kizhipada vendru) : You pierced and conquered the sprawling and mighty Mount Krouncha; உரம் (uram): strength, might;

அட்டு அரக்கர் வன் தலை நெரிய நெருங்கி (attu arakkar van thalai neriya nerungi) : You killed the demons by strangling their heads together in a tight squeeze;

புதைக் குறும் தசை குருதிகள் பொங்கப் பொரும் வேலா (pudhai kuRum dhasai kurudhigaL pongap porum vElA): all their inner flesh and blood gushed out when You fiercely battled them, Oh Lord with the spear! புதைக் குறும் தசை (puthaik kuRum thasai): flesh that is buried inside;

சிறுத்த தண்டைய ( siRuththa thaNdaiya): You wear cute little anklets on Your ankles!

மதலையொர் அஞ்ச சினத்து மிஞ்சு அரி திரி தரு குன்ற (madhalai or anja sinaththu minju ari thiri tharu kundra) : You went to the forest in VaLLimalai where ferocious lions roam about scaring away the children; அரி (ari) : lion; சினத்து மிஞ்சு அரி (sinaththu minju ari) : angry lion;

தினைப்புனம் திகழ் குறமகள் கொங்கை கிரி மேவி (thinaip punam thigazh kuRamagaL kongai giri mEvi ) : reaching the millet-field where the damsel of the KuRavAs, VaLLi, lived, and hugged her large bosoms,

செருக்கு நெஞ்சு உடை முருக (serukku nenjudai muruga): and Your mind was filled with delightful pride;

சிகண்டி பரி சுமந்திடு குமர கடம்ப (sikaNdip pari sumandhidu kumara kadamba): You mount the horse-like peacock, Oh Kumara; You wear the garland of kadappa flowers. சிகண்டி (sikaNdi) : Any fowl or peacock; பரி (pari) : horse;

திருக்குடந்தையில் உறை தரு கந்தப் பெருமாளே (thiruk kudandhaiyil uRai tharu kandhap perumALE) : You have Your abode in Thirukkudanthai (KumbakONam), Kandha, Oh Great One!
