Paraphrase

In this song, the poet refers to the events in his life when Lord Murugan pardoned all the sins he committed in his life and gave him the proficiency to sing His praise. முருகப் பெருமான் தான் இளமையில் உலக நெறியில் சென்று செய்த பிழைகளையெல்லாம் பொறுத்து, நீக்கி, சதா தன்னைப் பாடும் திறத்தை அருளிய தன் வரலாற்று நிகழ்ச்சியை அருணகிரிநாதர் இதில் குறிப்பிடுகின்றார்.

குடி வாழ்க்கை அன்னை மனையாட்டி பிள்ளை (kudi vAzhkkai annai manaiyatti piLLai) : The domestic and homely life I lead with my mother, wife, children and

குயில் போல் ப்ரசன்ன மொழியார்கள் (kuyil pOl prasanna mozhiyArgaL) : a multitude of women with voices sweet as a lark,

குலம் வாய்த்த நல்ல தனம் வாய்த்தது என்ன (kulam vAyththa nalla dhanam vAyththadhu enna) : I prided myself on my illustrious caste and the wealth I had,

குரு வார்த்தை தன்னை உணராதே (guru vArththai thannai uNarAdhE) : I never realized the value of my Guru's teachings;

இட நாட்கள் வெய்ய நமன் நீட்டி தொய்ய இடர் கூட்ட (ida nAtkaL veyya namaneetti thoyya idarkUtta ) : and spent my days wastefully. Before the evil Death-God, (Yaman), closes in on me, and fatigues me with a lot of pain; வெய்ய (veyya) : cruel; வெய்ய நமன் நீட்டி = வெப்பமான சீற்றமுள்ள இயமன் ஓலையை நீட்டி

இடு காட்டில் என்னை எரி ஊட்டும் முன் (idukAttil ennai eri Uttum munn ) : the cremation ground and burned; prior to that event,

உன் இரு தாட்கள் தம்மை உணர்வேனோ (un iru thAtkaL thammai uNarvEnO) : will I ever realize the greatness of Your two Holy Feet?

வட நாட்டில் வெள்ளி மலை காத்து (vada nAttil veLLi malai kAththu) : You protect the Silvery Mount (Thirukkayilai) in the North,

புள்ளி மயில் மேல் திகழ்ந்த குமரேசா (puLLi mayil mEl thigazhndha kumarEsA ) : sitting majestically on the spotted Peacock, Oh Kumaresa!

வடிவாட்டி வள்ளி அடி போற்றி (vadivAtti vaLLi adipOtri ) : You worship the feet of beautiful VaLLi,

வள்ளி மலை காத்த நல்ல மணவாளா (vaLLi malai kAththa nalla maNavALA ) : and wait for her at VaLLimalai, as a good husband!

அடி நாட்கள் செய்த பிழை நீக்கி என்னை (adi nAtkkaL seydha pizhai neekki ennai ) : You have corrected my past sins,

அருள் போற்றும் வண்மை தரும் வாழ்வே ( aruLpOtrum vaNmai tharum vAzhvE ) : and gave me the ability to extol Your Grace, my Treasure!

அடி போற்றி அல்லி முடி சூட்ட வல்ல (adipOtri alli mudisUtta valla) : For those who are capable of worshipping Your lotus feet and adorn your crown with the lotus flower,
