பந்தாட லிற்கழங் காடலிற் சுடர்ஊசல்
பாடலினொ டாடலின்எலாம்

பழந்தெவ்வர் கட்கம் துணித்திந்தி ரற்கரசு
பாலித்த திறல் புகழ்ந்தே

சந்தாரு நாண்மலர்க் குழல்அரம் பையர்களும்
சசிமங்கை அனையர்தாமுந்

தன்னைஅன் பொடுபாடி ஆடும்ப்ர தாபமும்
தலைமையும் பெற்ற வைவேல்

மந்தாகிநித்தரங் கச்சடில ருக்கரிய
மந்த்ரஉப தேச நல்கும்

வரதேசி கன்கிஞ்சு கச்சிகா லங்கார
வாரணக் கொடி உயர்த்தோன்

கொந்தார் மலர்க்கடம் புஞ்செச்சை மாலையுங்
குவளையுஞ் செங்காந்தளுங்

கூதாள மலருந் தொடுத்தணியு மார்பினன்
கோலத் திருக்கை வேலே.

Paraphrase

The celestial women would often sing the glory and magnificence of Murugan's vel while playing indoor games.

பந்து ஆடலில் கழங்கு ஆடலில் சுடர் ஊசல் பாடலினொடு ஆடலில் எலாம் ( pandhaadaliR kazhang kaadaliR sudar oosal paadalinodu aadalin elaam) : While playing with the ball, with bonduc nuts (kazharchikkai), or while singing in the bright swing or while dancing,

பழம் தெவ்வர் கட்கம் துணித்து இந்திரற்கு அரசு பாலித்த திறல் புகழ்ந்தே (pazhandhevvar katgam thuNith indhirark arasu paaliththa thiRal pugazhndhE) : praising the valor in subjugating their old foes by cutting the swords and restoring the rule of Indra, பழம் தெவ்வர் (pazhandhevvar) : old enemies;

சந்தம் ஆரு நாள் மலர்க் குழல் அரம்பையர்களும் சசிமங்கை அனையர் தாமும் (santhaaru naaNmalar kuzhal arambaiyargaLum sasimangai anaiyarthaamun) : the celestial beauties like Rambai, Urvasi, Tiloththamai who wear beautiful flowers on their hair, Indra's wife, Muruga's mothers – Parvati, Gangai and the Krittika maidens,

தன்னை அன்பொடு பாடி ஆடும் ப்ரதாபமும் தலைமையும் பெற்ற வைவேல் (thannai anbodu paadi aadum prathaapamum thalaimaiyum petra vaivEl) : would dance and sing about the grandeur and supremacy of the sharp lance or vel. Such is the splendor of Murugan's vel.

மந்தாகிநித் தரங்கச் சடிலருக்கு அரிய மந்த்ர உபதேச நல்கும் வரதேசிகன் (mandhaaginith tharanga chadilaruk ariya manthtra upadhEsa nalgum varadhEsikan) : He is the great preceptor (Guru) of Shiva who wears the wavy Ganges on the tresses, and preaches Him with the rare Mantra Upadesa;

கிஞ்சுகச் சிகா அலங்கார வாரணக் கொடி உயர்த்தோன் ( kinjugach sikaa lankaara vaaraNak kodi uyarththOn) : He holds aloft the flag of rooster with beautiful red comb; கிஞ்சுகம் (kinchukam) : red/crimson color;

கொந்து ஆர் மலர்க் கடம்பும் செச்சை மாலையும் குவளையும் செம் காந்தளும் கூதாள மலரும் தொடுத்து அணியும் மார்பினன் கோலத் திருக் கை வேலே.(kondhaar malark kadambum chechchai maalaiyum kuvaLaiyum seng kaanthaLum koodhaaLa malarum thoduththaNiyu maarbinan kOlath thirukkai vElE) : (The above-said 'Vel' (that was described in the first half of the poem) is the one in the beautiful hands of Murugan who wears garlands full of Kadappa blossoms, sechchai, kuvalai, neelotpala and kanthala flowers on his chest.
