உதர கமலத்தினிடை முதிய புவன த்ரயமும் உக முடிவில் வைக்கும் உமையாள் பெற்ற பாலகனும் (udhara kamalaththinidai mudhiya buvana thrayamum uga mudivil vaikkum umai yaaL petra baalaganum) : He is the son of Uma Devi who, at the end of the Yuga, keeps and protects the entire universe made of the three worlds in her lotus-like stomach;

உமிழ் திரை பரப்பி வரு வெகுமுக குலப் பழைய உதகமகள் பக்கல் வரு சோதிச் சடானனும் (umizh thirai parappi varu vegu muka kulap pazhaiya udhaka magaL pakkal varu jOthi shadaananum) : He is the radiant six-faced child on the laps of the ancient Ganga which throws multitudes of waves and has many tributaries; திரை(thirai) : waves; வெகுமுக (vegu muga) : multi-faced; here, tributaries; உதக மகள் (udhaka magaL) : Ganges;

உவகையொடு கிர்த்திகையர் அறுவரும் எடுக்க அவர் ஒருவர் ஒருவர்க்கு அவண் ஓர் புத்ரன் ஆனவனும் (uvagaiyodu kirthigaiyar aRuvarum edukka avar oruvar oruvark avaNor Or puthran aanavanum) : When the six delighted Kartigai girls wanted to pick him up (to feed Him), He became a child for each one of them;

உதய ரவிவர்க்க நிகர் வனகிரண விர்த்தவிதம் உடைய சத பத்ர நவ பீடத்து வாழ்பவனும் (udhaya ravi varga nigar vana kiraNa virththa vidham udaiya satha pathra nava peetaththu vaazhbavanum) : He is seated on a unique, multi-hued, hundred-petalled (eye-spots on the plumes) peacock that is radiant and is like a group of rising suns. உதிக்கும் சூரிய கூட்டம் போன்றதும், அழகிய ஒளி வீசுகின்றதும் வேறு வேறு வித்தியாசமான நிறங்களைக் கொண்டதும், தோகையில் நூறு கண்களை உடைய மயிலாகிய புதுமையான ஆசனத்தில் வீற்றிருப்பவனும்.

உறை சரவணக்கடவுள் மடுவில் அடர் வஜ்ரதரனுடைய மத வெற்பு உலைய வேதித்த வீரியனும் (uRai saravaNak kadavuL maduvil adar vajradharan udaiya madha veRpulaiya vEdhiththa veeriyanum) : He is the veteran fighter who took birth in the Saravana lake and fought and shattered mountain-like strong Airavata, the vehicle of Indra who holds Vajrayudha; கங்கையில் உள்ள போர் செய்ய வந்த வஜ்ராயுத தேவனான இந்திரனின் மலை போன்ற வலிமை மிக்க ஐராவதம் அடிபட்டு அழியும்படி புடைத்த சரவணப் பொய்கையில் மலர்ந்த கடவுளான வீரனும்,

Indra mistook Murugan to be a mere child and attacked him சரவண பொய்கையில் உமையால் அணைக்கப்பட்டு ஒன்று சேர்ந்த பச்சிளம் பாலகனான முருகன் பல திருவிளையாடல்களை புரிந்தான். இதைக்கண்டு ரசிக்கத் தெரியாமல் இந்திரன் மற்ற தேவர்களுடன் போர் செய்த போது, முருகன் இந்திரனுடைய மலை போன்ற வலிமை மிக்க ஐராவதம் அடிபடும்படி விளையாட்டாகவே சண்டையிட்டான். சிவகுமாரனின் அரிய பராக்கிரமத்தை உணர்ந்து தேவர்கள் அவனுக்கு பல ஆயுதங்களை பரிசாக கொடுத்தனர்; இந்திரனும் அவனை தன் படைகளுக்கு சேனாதிபதியாகும்படி வேண்டினான்.

உறை பெற வகுத்தருணை நகரின் ஒரு பத்தனிடும் ஒளிவளர் திருப்புகழ் மதாணி க்ருபாகரனும் (urai peRa vaguth aruNai nagarin oru baththan idum oLi vaLar thiruppugazh madhaaNi krupaakaranum) : He is the compassionate God who wears as pendent the resplendent Tiruppugazh, composed and assorted by this devotee from Thiruvannamalai;

ஒருவனும் மகிழ்ச்சி தரு குருபரனும் உத்தமனும் உபயமுறும் அக்நி கர மீதிற் ப்ரபாகரனும் (oruvanum magizhchchi tharu guruparanum uththamanum ubayam uRum agni kara meedhiR prabaakaranum) : He is the unique and highest Brahman and the Supreme Teacher who immerses the devotees who worship Him in the sea of happiness. அவுணர் படை கெட்டு முது மகரசல வட்டமுடன் அபயமிட விற்படைகொடு ஆயத்தமானவனும் (avuNar padai kettu mudhu makarajala vattamudan abayamida viRpadai kodu aayaththamaanavanum) : He destroyed the demon army, stood ready to wield the bow and made the fish in the sea beg in chorus for refuge;

அருணையில் இடைக்கழியில் உரககிரியில் புவியில் அழகிய செருத்தணியில் வாழ் கற்பக அடவியில் (aruNaiyil idaikkazhiyil uragagiriyil buviyil azhagiya seruththaNiyil vaazh kaRpaga ataviyil) : At Thiruvannamalai, Idaikkazhi, Thiruchengodu, ThiruththaNi and at Amaravathi, the abode of the celestials where the forest of Karpaga trees was rejuvenated, (refers possibly to Saint Arunagirinathar's trip to Amaravati to get Parijata flowers in the form of a parrot);

அறிவும் அறி தத்துவமும் அபரிமித வித்தைகளும் அறியென இமைப்பொழுதின் வாழ்வித்த வேதியனும் (aRivum aRi thaththuvamum aparimitha viththaigaLum aRiyena imaippozhudhin vaazhviththa vEdhiyanum) : He is the Brahmin who taught me the True Knowledge about the world, and the knowledge about its origins, countless art forms and siddhis (yogic accomplishments) in a trice; உலகப் பொருளை அறிய வைக்கும் சுட்டறிவையும், அந்த அறிவு எப்படி உருவாகிறது என்பதை விளங்கவைக்கும் மெய்யறிவையும்;

அரி பிரமருக்கு முதல் அரிய பரமற்கு உயரும் அருமறை முடிப்பை உபதேசித்த தேசிகனும் (ari biramarukku mudhal ariya paramaRk uyarum arumaRai mudippai upadhEsiththa dhEsikanum) : He taught the hard-to-understand and the incomparable vedanta or the end of vedas to Lord Shiva, whom even Lord Vishnu and Brahma could not know;

அமலனும் எனக்கரசும் அதிகுணனும் நிர்க்குணனும் (amalanum enakkarasum athiguNanum nirguNanum ) : He is not tainted by the three malas; He is my ruler; He is good natured and also beyond the three 'guna's (rajas, thamas and sattvic);

அகில புவனத்து அமர சேனைக்கு நாயகனும் (akila buvanaththu amara sEnaikku naayaganum) : He is the Head of the entire universe including the devas' army;

அநுபவனும் அற்புதனும் அநுகுணனும் அக்ஷரனும் அருமனம் ஒழிக்கும் அநுபூதிச் சுகோதயனும் (anubavanum adhbudhanum anuguNanum aksharanum arumanam ozhikkum anu boothi sukOdhayanum) : He is the root cause for all the sensual experiences, happiness and sorrows (anubhavan); He is spectacular; He is a companion to all actions/motions; He is indestructible; He is the personification of the happy state one gets after stilling the mind and getting fully immersed in Self; >உலகில் அனைத்து ஜீவராசிகளும் உணரும் இன்ப துன்பங்களுக்கு மூலகாரணமாக இருப்பவனும், வியக்கத்தக்க மூர்த்தியும், எல்லா இயக்கங்களுக்கும் துணையாக நிற்பவனும், நாசம் அற்றவனும் அழிவில்லாதவனும் (க்ஷரம் = அழிவு), அருமையான மனத்தின் சலனங்களை ஒடுக்கி தன்மயமாய் நிற்கும் அநுபவ ஞானத்தில் கிடைக்கப் பெறும் ஆனந்த வஸ்துவும்;

எனது மன சிற்பரம சுக மவுன கட்கமதை யமன் முடி துணிக்க விதியா வைத்த பூபதியும் (enadhu mana siRparama suga mavuna kadgam adhai yaman mudi thuNikka vidhiyaa vaiththa boopathiyum) : He is the graceful Lord/King who gave to my mind the sword of eternal and peaceful silence that can cut off Yama's head; எனது உள்ளத்தில் எமனுடைய சிரத்தை அறுக்கவல்ல பாக்ய வஸ்துவான நிஷ்சல இன்பம் நல்கும் மவுனம் எனும் வாளை கொடுத்து அருளிய மன்னனும்

எழுமையும் எனைத் தனது கழல் பரவு பத்தனென இனிதுகவி அப்படி ப்ரசாதித்த பாவலனும் (ezhumaiyum enaith thanadhu kazhal paravu baththanena inidhu kavi appadi prasaadhiththa paavalanum) : He is the bard who accepted me as an immutable devotee who has been worshipping His feet in all the seven types of birth and gave me the skill to sing melodiously; ஊர்வன முதல் தாவரம் முதலான ஏழுவகை பிறப்பிலும் என்னைத் தனது திருவடிகளைத் துதிக்கும் அடியவன் என ஏற்றுக் கொண்டு இனிமையான முறையில் பாடல்களைப் பாடும் திறனை அற்புதமான வகையில் தந்தருளிய கவி ராஜனும்

இமையவர் முடித்தொகையும் வனசரர் பொருப்பும் எனது இதயமும் மணக்கும் இரு பாதச் சரோருகனும் (imaiyavar mudith thogaiyum vanacharar poruppum enadh idhayamu maNakkum irupaadha sarOruganum) : His fragrant twin lotus feet resides on the heads of celestials, in the hills at Vallimalai where the hunters live and in my heart; வனசரர் (Vanacharar) : hunters, forest dwellers;

எழுதரிய கற்ப தரு நிழலில் வளர் தத்தை தழுவிய கடக வஜ்ர அதி பாரப் புயாசலனும் (ezhudhariya kaRpa tharu nizhalil vaLar thaththai thazhuviya kataka vajra athi baara buyaachalanum) : His mountain-like shoulders that are strong as the diamond embrace the indescribably beautiful Deivayaanai who grew under the shade of the Karpaga tree and hold the sword;

எதிரில் புலவர்க்குதவு வெளி முகடு முட்ட வளர் இவுளி முகியைப் பொருத ராவுத்தன் ஆனவனும் (edhiril pulavark kudhavu veLi mugadu mutta vaLar ivuLi mukiyai porudha raavuththan aanavanum ) : He is the warrior who, in order to help the incomparable poet Nakkeerar, fought with KaRikimukhi, the demoness who had grown so enormous as to touch the skies; தனக்கு சமானமில்லாத பெரும் புலவர் நக்கீரருக்கு உதவும் பொருட்டு ஆகாச உச்சியைத் தொடும் அளவிற்கு வளர்ந்திருந்த கற்கிமுகி எனும் பூதத்துடன் யுத்தம் செய்த போர் வீரனும்; ராவுத்தன் ( raavuththan ) : a horseman, trooper, rider;

எழு பரி ரதத்திரவி எழு நிலமொடக் கரிகள் இடர்பட முழக்கி எழு சேவற் பதாகையனும் (ezhupari rathath iravi ezhu nilamod akkarigaL idar pada muzhakki ezhu sEvaR pathaakaiyanum) : He holds the flag staff with the rooster which cocks loudly, anguishing the seven worlds through which the sun's chariot driven by seven horses plies and the eight elephants in the eight directions; ஏழு குதிரைகள் பூட்டிய தேரில் உலாவும் சூரியன் வியாபித்து வரும் ஏழு புவனங்களும் அந்த எட்டு திக்கு யானைகளும் வேதனை அடையும்படி கூக்குரலிட்டு எழும் சேவல் கொடியை கொண்டவனும்

இணையிலியும் நிர்ப்பயனும் மலமிலியும் நிஷ்களனும் இளையவனும் விப்ர குல யாகச் சபாபதியும் (iNaiyiliyum nirbayanum malamiliyum nishkaLanum iLaiyavanum viprakula yaaga sabaapathiyum) : He is peerless, fearless, blemishless, formless, youthful, and the master of the vedic ceremonies performed by the Brahmins;

மதுகையொடு சக்ரகிரி முதுகு நெளியப் புவியை வளையவரும் விக்ரம கலாபச் சிகாவலனும் (madhugaiyodu chakragiri mudhugu neLiyap buviyai vaLaiya varum vikrama kalaapa sikaavalanum) : He rides a sturdy peacock that goes round the earth and shakes strongly the backs of the chakravala mountain, மதுகை (madhugai) : strength; வீரியம், வீரம், வீச்சு, விறல்;

வலிய நிகளத்தினொடு மறுகு சிறை பட்டொழிய வனஜ முனியைச் சிறிது கோபித்த காவலனும் (valiya nigaLath thinodu maRugu siRai pattozhiya vanaja muniyai siRidhu kOpiththa kaavalanum) : He admonished lightly Lord Brahma seated on the lotus flower and shackled and anguished Him in the prison;

வரு சுரர் மதிக்க ஒரு குருகு பெயர் பெற்ற கன வடசிகரி பட்டுருவ வேல் தொட்ட சேவகனும் (varu surar madhikka oru kurugu peyar petra gana vada sikari patturuva vEl thotta sEvakanum) : He used the javelin (or vel) to pierce the golden mountain that bore the name of the Krauncha bird and won accolades from the devas;

வரதனும் அநுக்ரகனும் நிருதர் குல நிஷ்டுரனும் மநுபவன சித்தனும் மநோ துக்க பேதனனும் (varadhanum anugraganum nirudhar kula nishturanum manu bavana sidhdhanu manOdhukka bEdhananum) : He is giver of boons; He is the giver of Grace; He is the destroyer of the demons; He is the Siddha Purusha; He shatters the mental agony;

வயிரிசை முழக்க மிகு மழை தவழ் குறிச்சி தொறும் மகிழ் குரவை யுட்டிரியும் வேடிக்கை வேடுவனும் (vayir isai muzhakka migu mazhai thavazh kuRichchi thorum magizh kuravaiyut thiriyum vEdikkai vEduvanum) : He is the fun-loving gypsy/hunter who participates happily in the tribal dance performed in the ever-drizzling hilly tracts where the sound of trumpet-like pipes fill the air; ஊது கொம்புகளின் ஒலி நிறைந்துள்ளதும் சாரல் படிந்ததுமான களிப்புடன் கொண்டாடப்படும் குரவைக் கூட்டங்களில் கலந்து கொண்டு அருள் புரியும் வேடிக்கை வேடுவனும் , குரவை (kuravai) : rural dance;

மரகத மணிப் பணியின் அணிதழை உடுத்துலவும் வனசரர் கொடிச்சிதனை யாசிக்கும் யாசகனும் (maragatha maNip paNiyin aNithazhai uduth ulavum vanacharar kodichchi thanai yaachikkum yaachakanum) : He constantly begs (to marry Him) the hunter girl Valli who adorns herself with green beads and a dress made of green leaves;

மதனன் விடு புட்ப சர படலமுடல் அத்தனையும் மடல் எழுதி நிற்கும் அதி மோகத் தபோதனனும் (madhanan vidu pushpa sara padalam udal aththanaiyum madal ezhudhi niRkum athi mOhath thapOdhananum) : He is the yogic lover infatuated with divine love who drew a madal showing the marks of injury made by the flower darts of Manmatha all over His body; மன்மதன் செலுத்திய மலர் பாணங்களின் தொகுதி தனது உடல் முழுதும் பாய்ந்து புண்படுத்தி இருக்கும் நிலையை படத்தில் வரைந்து காட்டும் அதிக தெய்வீகக் காதல் மிக்க தவசீலனும்

வரிசிலை மலைக்குறவர் பரவிய புனத்து இதணில் மயிலென இருக்குமொரு வேடிச்சி காவலனே.(varisilai malaik kuRavar paraviya punaththu idhaNil mayilena irukkum oru vEdichchi kaavalanE) : He is the security guard of the peacock-like beautiful Valli who sits on the raised platform on the millet fields of the hunters who wield the bow; வரிந்து கட்டப்பட்ட வில் உடைய வேடுவர்கள் பூஜை போட்டு வழிபடும் தினை புனத்து பரணி மீதில் மயில் போன்ற ஒப்பற்ற வள்ளிக்கு பொழுது போக்குபவனாய் காவல் காத்த அந்த ஷண்முக தெய்வம் தான்.
