Paraphrase

கடகட கருவிகள் தப வகிர் அதிர் கதிர் காம ( kadakada karuvigaL thaba vagir adhir kadhirkAma) : The striped tigers in Your abode KadhirgAmam roar loud and subdue the booming sounds of the drums. கடகட என்று சப்திக்கும் பறைகளின் பேரொலியும் அடங்குமாறு வரிப்புலிகளின் ஒலி அதிர்கின்ற கதிர்காமத்துக் கடவுளே, வகிர் (vagir) : having lines or stripes, refers to striped tigers; தப (thaba) : to subdue; கருவிகள் (karuvigaL) : instruments; here, drums;

தரங்கம் அலை வீரா ( tharangam alai veerA) : You agitate the wavy sea with Your Spear and make it turbulent! அலைகள் வீசும் கடலினை உனது வேலால் அலைவுறச் செய்த வீரனே,

கன கத நக(ம்) குலி புணர் இத குண குக (kanakadha nagakuli puNar idha guNa guha) : You embraced DEvayAnai, brought up by AirAvatham, the elephant (of IndrA), noted for its fame and rage, oh amiable Guha (one who dwells inside the cave-heart)! கன (gana) : fame; கதம் (katham) : wrath, anger; நகம் ( nagam) : mountain, elephant; நககுலி ( nagakuli) : brought up by the mountain-like elephant as Deivayanai; இத குண (itha guNa) : sweet/kind natured;

காம அத்தன் அஞ்ச அம்புயன் ஓட ( kAmaththan anja ambuyan Oda) : Vishnu, father of Manmathan, was scared; BrahmA fled from the place; காம அத்தன்( kama aththan) : father of Kama/Manmatha; i.e., Vishnu; அம்புயன்(ambuyan) : one who sits on the lotus or Brahma;

வட சிகர கிரி தவிடு பட (vada sikhara giri thavidu pada) : the peaks of northern mount MEru were reduced to powder

நடம் இடும் மாவில் புகும் கந்த (nadamidu mAviR pugum kantha) : when You mount the horse-like peacock, Oh KanthA!மா (maa) : horse;

வழாது வழி வழி தமர் என வழி படுகிலன் ( vazhAdhu vazhivazhi thamar ena vazhi padugilan) : I do not worship You without any mistake and in a traditional way as Your devotees do. வழாது (vazhAdhu ) : without mistake; தமர் (thamar) : relative/family member;

என் அவா விக்கினம் பொன்றிடுமோ தான் (en avA vikkinam pondridumO thAn) : Nevertheless, will my desires and obstacles (to god realization) ever be destroyed? அவா (avA) : desire; விக்கினம் (vigginam) : obstacles;

அடவி இருடி அபிநவ குமரி அடிமையாய் ( adavi irudi abinava kumari adimaiyAy ) : You desired to be the slave of VaLLi, the wonderful daughter of a sage meditating in the forest, அடவி (atavi) : forest; இருடி (irudi) : monk;
(Vishnu took the form of a Saivite monk called Sivamuni and was meditating in a forest. Lakshmi took the form of a deer and distracted Vishnu. When the sage's eyes fell on the deer, she conceived and delivered a baby girl. The baby was left in a pit of VaLLi roots. Later, the hunters discovered the baby and reared her and named her VaLLi.)

அப்புனம் சென்று அயர்வோனே (appunam sendru ayarvOnE) : and went to the millet field and were in despair;

அவசமுடன் அ ததி திரிதரு கவி (avasamudan athadhi thiritharu kavi) : Once, a poet (PoyyAmozhi) was roaming in the forest in a daze (because of mid-day sun); அவசம் (avasam) : swooning/fainting; ததி (thathi) : opportunity, suitable time; தக்க சமயம்;

ஆள புயம் கொண்டு அருள்வோனே (ALa ayil buyam koNdu aruLvOnE) : You bestowed Your grace on him by carrying the spear on Your shoulder! பொய்யாமொழிப் புலவரை ஆட்கொள்வதற்காக, தோளில் சாத்திய வேலோடு காட்சி தந்தவனே!

இடம் ஒரு மரகத மயில் மிசை வடிவு உள ஏழைக்கு இடம் கண்டவர் வாழ்வே (idam oru maragatha mayil misai vadivuLa Ezhaikku idam kaNdavar vAzhvE) : You are the child of Shiva who gave the left side of His body to this beautiful and poor emerald-green peahen (Parvathi);

இதம் மொழி பகரினும் மத மொழி பகரினும் ஏழைக்கு இரங்கும் பெருமாளே. ( idhamozhi pagarinu madhamozhi pagarinum Ezhaik kirangum perumALE.) : Whether I praise You with kind words or I speak to You arrogantly, You are always extremely gracious to this poor soul, Oh Great One!
