கடாவினிடை வீரங் கெடாமல் இனிது ஏறுங் கடாவின் நிகராகுஞ் சமனாரும் (kadaavin idai veeram kedaamal inidhERum kadaavi nigaraagum samanaarum) : Mounting the buffalo valiantly and joyously, Yama, shaggy as the buffalo,
கடாவிவிடு தூதன் கெடாதவழி போலும் ( kadAvi vidu dhUthan kedAdha vazhi pOlum) : commands his messenger who follows an unfailing path; similar to this infallible messenger of death, கடாவுதல் = செலுத்துதல்; கெடாத வழி = தவறாத வழி;
சதம் என்று நாம் நம்பும் வாழ்வு, கனாவைப் போலவும், அறஞ் செய்யார் பொருளைப் போலவும், அழியும் இயல்புடையது.
கனாவில் விளையாடுங் கதைபோலும் ( kanAvil viLaiyAdum kadhai pOlum) : like the evanescent story that unfurls in a dream (and is gone when one wakes up);
இடாது பல தேடும் கிராதர் பொருள் போல் ( idAdhu pala thEdum kirAdhar poruL pOl ) : and like the short-lived wealth of the misers who amass it without giving alms (to the needy), இடாது = யாருக்கும் கொடுக்காது; பல தேடும் = பலவற்றைத் தேடிச் சேர்த்துவைக்கும்;

விகாரமுறு சூரன் பகாரமுயிர் வாழ்வும் விநாசமுற வேல் அங்கு எறிவோனே ( vikAramuRu sUran pagAram uyir vAzhvum vinAsamuRa vEl angu eRivOnE) : You hurled the spear at the wicked Suran and destroyed his ego and life. மாறுபட்ட சூரபன்மனுடைய ஆடம்பரம் நிறைந்த வாழ்க்கை அழியுமாறு வேலை விடுவித்தவரே! விகாரம் = துர்குணம்; பகார = அலங்காரமான; பகரம் என்ற சொல் சந்தத்தை முன்னிட்டு பகாரம் எனவந்தது.
தொடாது நெடு தூரம் தடாது மிக ஓடும் சுவாசமதுதான் ஐம்புலனோடுஞ் ( thodAdhu nedu dhUram thadAdhu miga Odum suvAsamadhu thAn aimpulan Odum ) : The breath, which runs unhindered, long and deep, and unbounded; and the five sensory organs; தொடமுடியாத எல்லைக்கெல்லாம் நீண்ட தொலைவுக்குத் தடையில்லாமல் அளவு கடந்து ஓடுகின்ற மூச்சையும், ஐம்புலன்களையும்,
சுபானமுறு ஞானந் தபோதனர்கள் சேரும் ( subAnamuRu nyAna thapOdhanargaL sErum ) : are controlled through Yogic exercises of breathing. The destination of these wise meditating yogis (pranayama), பருகுவதற்கு எளிதான பானமாக குடித்து ஞானத்தால் அவற்றை (மூச்சையும், ஐம்புலன்களையும்) உள்ளே அடக்கிய தவசீலர்கள் ஒன்றுகூடி இருப்பதான; சுபானம் உறு = நல்ல படி உள்ளே அடக்குகின்ற;
