Paraphrase

In the first half of the poem, Arunagirinathar asks Muruga to give him the spiritual instruction – the insight into which eluded even Indra, Brahma and Vishnu – so that his mind may get clear and tranquil.

புகர புங்க பகர குன்றில் புயலில் தங்கி பொலிவோனும் (pugara punga pagarak kundRil puyalil thangi polivOnum ): Indra who lives amidst the cloud and rides the dotted, tall and majestic white elephant; புள்ளிகளுடனும் உடல் முழுதும் வெள்ளை நிறம் கொண்டு அழகுற மலைபோல் விளங்கும் ஐராவதம் என்னும் யானை வாகனத்தின் மீதினிலும், மற்றொரு வாகனமாம் மேகத்தின் மேலும் உலவுகின்ற இந்திரனும், புகர = புள்ளிகளை உடையதும்; பகர = அழகுள்ளதுமான; புங்க = தூய்மையுடைய;

பொரு இல் தஞ்ச சுருதி சங்க பொருளை பண்பில் புகர்வோனும் (poruvil thanja surudhi sanga poruLai paNbil pugalvOnum): Brahma who methodically recites the meanings of the unrivaled glorious compilations of Vedas; இணையற்றதும், அனைத்துக் கலைகட்கும் புகலிடமுமான வேதத் தொகுதிகளின் சீர்மிகு பொருளை உணர்ந்து சொல்ல வல்ல நான்முகனெனும் பிரமனும்,

திகிரி செம் கண் செவியில் துஞ்ச திகிரி செம் கை திருமாலும் (thigiri chem kaN seviyil thunja thigiri chem kai thirumAlum): Vishnu who holds the Sudarshana chakra in His hands and sleeps on the mountainous and renowned serpent Adisesha; மலையினை ஒத்ததும், செம்மைப் பண்புகள் மிக்கதுமாய ஆதி சேடன் எனும், கண்களே காதாய்க் கொள்ளும் அரவத்தின் மேல் அறிதுயில் கொள்பவரும்,

திரிய பொங்கி திரை அற்று உண்டிட்டு தெளிதற்கு ஒன்றை தர வேணும் (thiriya pongi thirai atRu uNdittu teLidhaRkku ondRai thara vENum): all of them wander (in search of the Ultimate Truth); kindly give me the 'gnanopadesha' - the Ultimate Wisdom by consuming which I may rid myself of waves of thoughts and make my mind still and clear; இவர்கள் அனைவரும் (தமக்கிந்த உபதேசம் கிடைத்திடவில்லையே என இங்கும் அங்குமாய்) அலைந்து திரிந்திடும் வேளையினில், மனதினிலே உவகை பொங்கி, எண்ணமெனும் மாய அலைகள் என் உள்ளத்தினின்று அகலுமாறு பேரின்பப் பொருளான சிவானுபூதியினை உட்கொண்டு, என் உள்ளம் தெளியும் வண்ணம் அருள் மொழி ஒன்றினை அடியேனுக்கு உபதேசித்து அருள வேணும். திரை அற்று = [எண்ண]அலைகள் நீங்கி;

தகரத்து அந்தச் சிகரத்து ஒன்றி தட நல் கஞ்சத்து உறைவோனே (thagara thandha sikaraththu ondRi thada naR kanjaththu uRaivOnE): In the Cosmos of Thakaram, sitting on the zenith of the VEdAs is my lotus heart; and You dwell in it! இதயமெனும் தகராகாசமாகிய தாமரையின் உயரிய சிகரத்தின் உச்சியினுள் உறைவோனே!;
The inherent nature of Atma is Ananda or happiness. Thakara Akasam or Hrudaya-Akasa, (the sky of the heart) is the cosmos in the inner soul of the AthmA where True Knowledge glows like a light. Even though the soul is spiritual, it has now forgotten its own nature. Our Hrudaya must be rid of the knots of doubts and pride, for us realize our true nature.

தருண கொங்கை குறவிக்கு இன்பத்தை அளித்து அன்புற்று அருள்வோனே (tharuNa kongai kuRavikku inbaththai aLiththu anbutRu aruLvOnE): You bestow your love and the greatest bliss to VaLLi, the gypsy girl with youthful bosom, Oh Lord!

பகர பைம்பொன் சிகர குன்றை படியில் சிந்த தொடும் வேலா (pagara paimpon sikara kundRai padiyil sindha thodum vElA): You pulverized the golden peaks of the bright mount Krouncha on this earth with your Spear!

பவள துங்க புரிசை செந்தில் பதியில் கந்த பெருமாளே.(pavaLa thunga purisai chendhil padhiyil kandha perumALE.): You reside at Tiruchendur surroundedby pure coral red fortresses, oh Lord!
