வெம்பி யிடறு	மொருபாச
விஞ்சை விளையு மன்று னடிமை
வென்றி யடிகள்	தொழவாராய்
சிங்க முழுவை தங்கு மடவி
சென்று மறமி	னுடன்வாழ்வாய்
சிந்தை மகிழ அன்பர் புகழு
செந்தி லுறையு	முருகோனே
எங்கு மிலகு திங்கள் கமல
மென்று புகலு	முகமாதர்
இன்பம் விளைய அன்பி னணையு

Paraphrase

At the time of death all the close relatives surround the dying person and cry hysterically. The body is then taken to cremation ground and lit. Everyone goes his way and returns home after a ceremonial dip in the river. The soul is now left alone in the grip of the fierce god of death and it has to start its solitary journey. It is engaged in a tussle with maya that weakens its will to move on after relinquishing all earthly attachment. The time when this farce is enacted, Lord Murugan should appear so that we may worship Him and be rid of all the earthly shackles.

மங்கை சிறுவர் தங்கள் கிளைஞர் வந்து கதற (mangai siRuvar thangaL kiLainyar vandhu kadhaRa ) : The wife and children, along with relatives, assemble and wail loudly.

உடல் தீயில் மண்டி எரிய விண்டு புனலில் வஞ்சம் ஒழிய விழ (udal theeyil mandi eriya viNdu punalil vanjam ozhiya vizha ) : The body, laid on the funeral pyre, is burning away intensely. Relatives, departing after the cremation, dip in the river so as to rid themselves of the delusion of attachment. விண்டு — (உறவினர்கள் யாவரும் சுடு காட்டை விட்டு) நீங்க; புனலில் — நீரில்; வஞ்சம் ஒழிய = (பந்தம் என்னும்) மாயம் ஒழியும்படி;

ஆவி வெம் கண் மறலி தன் கை மருவ (Avi venkaN maRali than kai maruva ) : My life is held in the hands of fiery-eyed Yama

வெம்பி இடறும் ஒரு பாச விஞ்சை விளையும் அன்று உன் அடிமை வெ(ற்)றி அடிகள் தொழ வாராய் ( vembi idaRum oru pAsa vinjai viLaiyum andRun adimai vendRi adigaL thozha vArAy ) : On that day when my mind sulks and suffers, enacting a drama called attachment, You must bless me, Your slave, to worship Your triumphant feet! விஞ்சை (vinjai) : கல்வி, மாயவித்தை, கலை, இறையறிவு, அறிவு, மந்திரம்; ஒரு பாச விஞ்சை விளையும் அன்று — பற்று என்னும் மாயக் கூத்து நிகழ்கின்ற அந்த நாளில்;

சிங்கம் உழுவை தங்கும் அடவி சென்று மற மின்னுடன் வாழ்வாய் (singam uzhuvai thangum adavi sendRu maRamin udan vAzhvAy ) : You went to the forest where lions and tigers stalk and lived happily with VaLLi, the damsel of the hunters. உழுவை (uzhuvai) : tiger;

சிந்தை மகிழ அன்பர் புகழும் செந்தில் உறையும் முருகோனே (chindhai magizha anbar pugazhum chendhil uRaiyum murugOnE) : You thrill and delight the minds of devotees and reside at Thiruchendhur, Oh Muruga!

எங்கும் இலகும் திங்கள் கமலம் என்று புகலும் முக மாதர் (engum ilagu thingaL kamalam endRu pugalum muga mAthar) : The pretty faces of Devayanai and Valli, Your consorts, are compared by poets to the ubiquitous moon and the lotus; எவ்விடத்திலும் விளங்குகின்ற சந்திரனையும் தாமரையையும் ஒத்தது என்று உவமை கூறி புலவர்கள் புகழ்கின்ற திருமுகத்தையுடைய தெய்வயானையையும் வள்ளியையும்

இன்பம் விளைய அன்பில் அணையும் என்றும் இளைய பெருமாளே. (inbam viLaiya anbin aNaiyum endRum iLaiya perumALE. ) : You embrace them lovingly to immerse the world in bliss; and You are forever young, Oh Great One! உயிர்களுக்கு இன்பம் விளையுமாறு அன்புடன் தழுவுகின்ற எக்காலத்தும் இளமையுடன் இருக்கின்ற பெருமை மிகுந்தவரே!
